I have trained a neural network to create new imagery based off of my own paintings of the machine. The neural network that I am working with is called a Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Network (DCGAN) which works by employing two agents, a generator and a discriminator. The GAN learns as the generator attempts to copy the dataset while the discriminator assesses how close the generator got to the original dataset. As I paint these circuit boards, I am trying to understand the computer. Through a somewhat similar process of copying -or recreating- the computer will learn the essence of my circuit board paintings. What are the limitations of the value of mimicry? As the computer tries to learn through recreation, does it hold the same value as the humanistic process of recreation?
